"When it comes to the future of moving, we know exactly which way to go!"

Moving Plants
  1. Some house plants are susceptible to shock when moved
  2. Temperatures below 35 degrees or above 95 degrees for more than an hour can kill many plants
  3. Most house plants can survive seven to ten (7 – 10) days without water but should be moist when placed inside moving cartons
  4. House plants can tolerate darkness for up to a week – Gradually expose plants to sunlight after prolonged darkness to avoid wilting and sun scald
  5. Most professional movers will accept plants, if not more than 150 miles or delivery within 24 hours
  6. Check federal and state regulations for quarantines or other restrictions when moving across state lines
  7. Several states require that plants be inspected and declared “pest free”
  8. Some states have random vehicle checks – others inspect at their borders
  9. You must arrange for inspection of your house plants by an authorized state department of agriculture inspector
  10. Never carry plants in the car trunk – they will easily get too hot or too cold

MOVING SAFETY TIPS

Moving companies are not licensed to transport “hazardous materials”

  1. Dispose of flammables such as fireworks, cleaning fluids, matches, acids, chemistry sets, aerosol cans, ammunition, etc.
  2. Drain fuel from mowers and other machinery – discard partly used cans of oil, paint, thinner, or other substances that may leak.
  3. Carefully tape and place inside individual waterproof bags any jars or cans of liquid that you plan to take with you.
  4. Refillable tanks must be purged and sealed by a local propane gas dealer
  5. Discard non-refillable tanks.
  6. Have rugs and draperies cleaned – leave them wrapped.
  7. Obtain a written appraisal for antiques to verify the value.
  8. Avoid waxing or oiling wooden antiques and fine wood furniture prior to moving – some products may soften the wood making it vulnerable to imprinting from furniture pads.
  9. Before dismantling your outside TV antenna, check to see if the cost of a new one is worth the hassle of moving the old one.
  10. Third party services are generally required when moving items such as hot tubs, big screen televisions and some exercise equipment.
  11. Talk to your mover about disconnection and reconnection of your washer, dryer, dishwasher, grandfather clock, pool table, satellite dish, etc.

ADDITIONAL COSTS AND CONCERNS

  1. Arrange day care for small children on moving day.
