"When it comes to the future of moving, we know exactly which way to go!"

CLAIMS

If any of your household goods are damaged or lost, promptly record these items on the inventory before you sign the Bill of Lading at destination. Retain copies from your driver.

All claims must be filed within nine (9) months after delivery. Your mover must acknowledge receipt of your claim within 30 days and must deny or make an offer within 120 days of receipt of your claim.

When making a claim or considering a settlement offer, the amount of liability that you declared on your shipment (also signed for on the Bill of Lading) determines the settlement offer:

General Liability: This coverage is free and provides a released value of .60 per pound per article. Compensation for each item that has been determined to be damaged or lost while in the possession of your mover is calculated by multiplying the weight of the item (the weight of the box if the item was packed) by .60.

Example: 100 pound television X .60 = $60.00

Replacement Value: This coverage is an optional upgrade to General Liability. First, the minimum value for your household shipment must be determined. This is done by multiplying the estimated weight of your household shipment by $5.00 per pound.

Example: 5,000 pounds X $5.00 = $25,000.00.

The cost for this coverage varies slightly among moving companies. Deductibles are offered, reducing the premium. Compensation for each item that has been determined to be damaged or lost while in the possession of your mover is based on the following:

  1. Repair cost (determined by local repair firm)
  2. Current market value if the item can not be repaired (no depreciation)

Self Pack Moves: If you pack your own personal belongings into moving cartons, your mover is not responsible for broken, damaged or missing items UNLESS the carton has been crushed or torn.

Carrier Pack Moves: If the moving company packs items that are later discovered to be damaged, the mover is responsible to compensate you for the lost or damaged item(s).

Policy Exclusions: Exclusions can vary among movers. Commonly, electronics are not covered unless the box that it was packed into was recorded as damaged, or if the item was noted to have visible damaged when received at delivery.
